Zhaoyang (Paul) Li represents clients in intellectual property (IP) matters with an emphasis on patent law. He advises on overall IP strategy counseling and implementation, patent prosecution, patentability and patent infringement assessment opinions, IP due diligence, patent right licensing agreements, patent litigation support and counseling on design-around patents to avoid infringement. Paul represents clients in a variety of technologies including biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, biotech, tissue engineering, biomaterial, nanomaterial, telecommunication, electronics and integrated circuit design. Paul has worked with many prestigious companies and individuals including Professor Robert Langer of MIT, the most cited engineer in history and holder of approximately 760 issued and pending patents worldwide.

Paul has been appointed by the US State Department to serve as the US Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) speaker in the Greater China region including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and to promote IPR protection and enforcement in the Greater China region. He is the co-author of two book chapters, has published numerous scientific research and review articles and has presented at national and international conferences. Paul has published two books in Chinese on the protection and commercialization of IP rights and has been invited to speak on IP protection and commercialization issues before numerous US and Chinese universities, as well as private and government organizations.

Paul has extensive research experience in chemistry and related fields. He obtained his doctorate with American Chemical Society award winning Professor Richard Adams at the University of South Carolina. He also worked for three years with world-renowned organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry professor Iwao Ojima at the State University of New York at Stony Brook on synthesis of alkaloids by catalysis. Paul is the recipient of the 1994 Outstanding Student Award from the International Precious Metals Institute for his research on catalysis by platinum-containing complexes.
