Zakir’s practice focuses on Construction, Engineering and Projects, providing advice and assistance at all levels of the project cycle including procurement, forms of contract, risk identification and mitigation, drafting and negotiating construction documentation and post contract support and assistance.
Zakir is active in a number of sectors. He has acted on major energy infrastructure, water, renewables, biofuels and gas storage and decommissioning projects. He has been involved with a wide range of public sector clients (including the Olympic Delivery Authority, local authorities, Regional Development Agencies and Urban Regeneration Companies) on a number of landmark regeneration projects. He acts for developers, corporate occupiers, investors and funders on development and investment projects including specialist sectors such as primary care and forecourt development.
Zakir is experienced in drafting and negotiating construction contracts using EPC, design and construct, traditional, construction management and other models and based on standard industry forms (such as JCT, ICE, NEC, IChemE, FIDIC and IMechE) as well as bespoke agreements. He also has substantial experience of framework and alliancing agreements, development agreements, subcontracts, professional team appointments, collateral warranties/direct agreements, deeds of assignment, deeds of novation, vesting agreements, letters of intent, parent company guarantees and bonds. He is a member of the Society of Construction Law, Technology & Construction Solicitors Association, Kings College Construction Law Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Adjudication Society.

Representative Experience
- Acting for a water company in relation to its £2bn asset management programme (AMP 5).
- Acting on several major projects relating to the London 2012 Olympics.
- Instructed by a utility company in respect of the construction of a Wind farm in Scotland.
- Instructed on several high profile regeneration projects, including Rochester Riverside, Chatham Maritime, the regeneration of Hull and Sheffield, Chatterley Valley, Walsall Waterfront and the coalfield regeneration in South Yorkshire.
- Acting for a utility company in respect of the decommissioning of four salt cavities for gas storage in the North of England.
- Assisting the Homes and Communities Agency to set up a Delivery Partner Framework.
- Acting for a purchaser on the EPC Contract in relation to a bioethanol plant in the north of England.
- Drafting the precedent suite of construction documentation, which is used by the Homes and Communities Agency and the Regional Development Agencies throughout the country.
