Tom McNaughton

Associate

Tom McNaughton is a lawyer in the Firm’s London Pensions Practice and focuses upon all aspects of UK pensions law, with a particular focus upon advising the Trustees of defined benefit pension schemes. This involves a broad range of schemes from those operated by large utility and manufacturing companies to financial service providers and insurers.

Tom has experience of a broad range of pensions law issues, which includes advising trustees regarding the investment of scheme assets, advising corporates and scheme trustees on pensions law issues in the context of corporate transactions and restructurings, guiding trustees through specific issues arising in relation to the Pension Protection Fund, and advising on the buy-out of large schemes’ liabilities through regulated insurers.

More recently, Tom’s practice has also focussed upon advising UK local government pension schemes and related financial service providers, with a particular emphasis upon the growth in innovative pension fund investment structures.

Tom is also a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers.

Representative Experience

    • Advising the Trustees of FTSE 100 company pension scheme in relation to the buy-out of the scheme’s liabilities with a major insurer.
    • Advising a major UK bank in relation to the structuring of various investment products and platforms to be marketed to the local government pension fund market.
    • Advising the trustees of a large construction company scheme on their entry into the PPF following the insolvency of the sponsoring employer.
    • Advising a large Japanese multinational on pensions issues arising as a result of its UK restructuring.
