Suzanna C. Dunsmore

Senior Associate

Suzanna is a member of the Squire Sanders Labor & Employment Practice Group. She has more than 10 years of experience focusing predominantly on employment and discrimination law matters. She has six years of prior experience working for a London-based, large regional law firm in the UK.

Suzanna has acted for a wide range of clients from individuals and owner-managed companies to listed companies. She provides advice on human relations and industrial relations matters including termination of employment, independent contractor engagement, discrimination claims, managing underperforming employees, redundancy and business reorganisation. She also advises on human relations and industrial relations issues arising from the sale of a business, outsourcing, management buyouts and corporate restructuring.

Suzanna is a member of the Industrial Relations Society of Western Australia and presents at the Australian Institute of Management.

Representative Experience

    • Reporting on the HR, occupational health and safety and superannuation aspects of the Australian branch of a company prior to its listing on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange.
    • Advising on the international relocation of a workplace for a major US-based Internet retailer.
    • Advising large employers such as Harmony Gold Operations Ltd on redundancy programs including collective redundancies and redundancies arising from the closure or relocation of a business operation. 
    • Auditing the engagement status of the sales representatives of a major Western Australia-based building company and its associated companies.
    • Advising a key government-funded health care company on employment aspects relating to its relocation to New South Wales and applying for the termination of its existing collective agreement and Australian Workplace Agreements.
    • Acting for both employers and employees in managing dismissals and negotiating terms of departure.
    • Advising employers, including a Formula 1 racing company, on the protection of confidential business information and instigating associated proceedings.
    • Advising on the employment consequences of the acquisition and sale of businesses including cross-border transactions and outsourcing arrangements.
