Sharon Doherty Sirott

Sharon Doherty Sirott focuses her practice on commercial litigation matters. She has extensive experience in complex and class action litigation and has represented clients in numerous trials, hearings and arbitration proceedings before federal and state courts. Sharon’s litigation experience includes commercial contract disputes, consumer class actions, governmental and internal investigations, and matters involving non-compete agreements, insurance issues and trade secret, consumer fraud and environmental claims.

Prior to joining Squire Sanders, Sharon was a senior litigation attorney for BP America, Inc., handling a broad-based litigation portfolio for BP’s various business units and was active in implementing litigation strategies and managing outside counsel. Additionally, she counseled business management on legal risks and resolution strategies. She was also a member of BP Legal’s committee on eDiscovery issues and discovery guidelines for the company. Prior to her role with BP, Sharon was a litigation partner at a large law firm in Chicago.

Sharon served as a clerk for The Honorable Harold J. Baer of the US District Court, Southern District of New York.

Sharon works with several Squire Sanders offices including Cleveland and Houston and resides in Chicago.

Representative Experience

    • Serving as in-house counsel for various litigation matters including commercial disputes, trade secret litigation pending in US and foreign courts, secured dismissal of proposed statewide consumer class action, claims asserting environmental violations and joint venture disputes.
    • Defending a major manufacturing company against a request for emergency injunctive relief and claims of trade secret misappropriation and breach of a non-compete agreement.
    • Assisting a large food and beverage corporation in obtaining emergency injunctive relief and claims of misappropriation of trade secrets, as well as in other litigation involving false advertising claims.
    • Representing a major natural gas company against antitrust and fraud claims, securing dismissal of the claims prior to trial.
    • Representing pro bono an inmate on Georgia's death row at the evidentiary hearing on client's state habeas corpus petition.
    • Defending a large real estate developer against claims for breach of contract, and obtaining dismissal of claims with prejudice and award of legal fees for client.
    • Defending a reinsurer through a lengthy arbitration involving a claim for rescission of a US$100 million contract.
    • Assisting in the defense of a large insurance company in a multistate consumer class action tried in Illinois state court.
