Jonathan Makarowitz concentrates his practice on asset-based lending, community development lending and real estate finance. Jonathan handles single-bank and syndicated asset-based lending transactions and also works on financings related to corporate restructurings. As lender’s counsel for major financial institutions, Jonathan has represented these clients on all aspects of structuring domestic and cross-border asset-based financings as well as leveraged commercial and real estate financings and mezzanine financings and related restructurings and workouts transactions.
His asset-based financing transactions have included working capital loans, leveraged acquisitions and second lien facilities across a broad range of industries including chemicals, food products, and consumer credit. Reflecting the credit crisis and the economic downturn, Jonathan’s depth of experience has most recently been sought by a variety of clients for a diverse range of financing issues as well as debt restructuring and repurchase transactions.
Jonathan has considerable experience with the workings of several government subsidy programs through the city of New York, acting through its Department of Housing Preservation and Development, as well as through programs using low income housing tax credit bond issues.
He has substantial experience with complex construction loan transactions for affordable housing projects in New York, especially with subsidized building projects for the low to middle income markets of New York’s five boroughs.
