Scott Edelstein, co-chair of the firm's Healthcare & Life Sciences Industry Group and a member of the firm's Healthcare Reform Task Force, focuses his practice on advising healthcare providers on legal and regulatory issues. He also regularly assists hospitals and physician groups in the formation of integrated delivery systems, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and medical tourism.
Scott works closely with ambulatory surgical centers, imaging centers, “e‑health” companies, telemedicine networks, healthcare providers, hospitals, and pharmaceutical and biomedical companies on a range of healthcare law compliance matters involving licensing, physician recruiting, partnership, joint ventures, technology agreements and outsourcing.
Scott has written extensively on healthcare compliance issues including fraud and abuse and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security standards. His frequent lectures on healthcare issues have included discussions on healthcare compliance in the age of diminishing reimbursement and on challenges posed by electronic medical records and outsourcing.
Scott received the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) at its first annual Integrity Awards. He was also named part of the Legal Elite for 2009 by the readership of Washington SmartCEO. In 2004, 2005 and 2006, he was named as one of Southern California’s Rising Stars in Health Care Law by Los Angeles Magazine and Legal Times.
Scott is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Health Information Management Association, the American Health Lawyers Association Health Information Technology Practice Group, the Association of Telemedicine Service Providers, and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and a board member of the Medical Tourism Association. He is also a member of the California and District of Columbia Bar Associations.
