Sarah Gammon

Senior Associate

Sarah Gammon has experience in providing advice to trustees and companies on all aspects of pensions law, including duties and responsibilities, legislative changes and compliance, governance, pension scheme restructuring and advising corporate clients in respect of the pensions implications of proposed transactions. 

Sarah is a committee member of the North East Group of the Association of Pension Lawyers.  She is experienced in presenting at client and industry body seminars.

Sarah is a school governor at a local primary school and takes part in various Business in the Community projects which Squire Sanders is involved with.

Representative Experience

    • Advising the trustees of a water company pension scheme on various aspects of the operation of the scheme.
    • Advising the trustee of a scheme on the privatisation of the sponsoring employer and the confirmation of a Crown guarantee, and the segregation of the privatised and non privatised sections of the scheme.
    • Advising the trustees of a scheme sponsored by an insurance company on all general day to day matters regarding the operation of the scheme, together with advice and support for one off projects.
    • Advising well known professional body in relation to termination of defined benefit arrangements, and related negotiation of documentation and funding arrangements.
    • Advising on termination of commercial contract and related impact on employer debt and transfer arrangements.
    • Negotiating guarantee and intra-group finance arrangements, coupled with termination of defined benefit accrual. 
    • Advising corporate clients on the pension implications of refinancing arrangements and the related documentation.
    • Redrafting scheme documentation to consolidate, update and amend where required.
    • Leading training on a variety of topics including scheme documentation, trustee knowledge and understanding, recent legislative changes and corporate transactions and pensions.
    • Providing general advice for trustee clients in diverse areas including: member queries; benefit queries; the impact of legislative developments; member nominated trustee procedures; and member communications.
    • Advising trustee clients in respect of benefit equalisation and the resulting action to be taken to remedy any issues.
    • Advising on pension plan mergers including project managing the process.
    • Advising on legislative changes and compliance including in relation to employer duties and auto enrolment.
