R. Thomas Stanton served as chair/chair-elect of the firm from 1989 to 2009. Under his leadership, the firm significantly expanded its global practice position throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas. Before that, he served as managing partner of the New York office from 1983 to 1988.

Tom’s legal practice focused on infrastructure and project finance, principally as counsel to underwriters and issuers on major financings and development projects throughout the US.

Tom is a present or past trustee of numerous community and business organizations, including the Ohio Business Roundtable, the Musical Arts Association (Cleveland Orchestra), University Circle, Inc., the Cleveland Institute of Art, Leadership Cleveland, and the Case Western Reserve University West Campus Visiting Committee. He also serves on the Board of Northwestern University Law School and on the Advisory Council of the Law School’s Center for Practice Engagement & Innovation, and chairs the Dean’s Council of Harvard Divinity School.
