Keith Shumate has general commercial litigation experience with an emphasis on complex, healthcare, trade secret, creditors’ rights and products litigation. In the last five years, Keith has successfully defended an alleged misappropriation of trade secrets case where the jury returned a complete defense verdict and awarded defendants more than US$30 million for damages and attorney fees on their counterclaim; obtained a complete defense verdict in a securities fraud lawsuit in which the client prevailed on a counterclaim for damages and attorney fees; he has defended an integrated hospital system in antitrust and tortious interference lawsuits brought by competitors; and represented lenders in multiple workouts and creditors’ rights litigations. 
Keith also defended the largest manufacturer of high density polyethylene pipe in various lawsuits throughout the country. He is listed in Ohio Super Lawyers and as a future star in Ohio by Benchmark: Litigation.

Prior to joining Squire Sanders, he served as a judicial clerk for The Honorable David A. Nelson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Keith is a member of the Columbus Bar Association. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association Advisory Committee and a member of Southern District of Ohio, Local Rules Committee. Keith is a former president of The Ohio State University Law Alumni Society and has been named a member of The Ohio State University’s National Council of the College of Law Alumni Association. He is also on the board of trustees for the Columbus Zoo, The Wilds and Capital Club Board of Governors. Keith is a member of the City of Columbus Records Commission.
