Merrell B. Renaud

Merrell Renaud’s practice focuses upon employment counseling and employment litigation on behalf of management. She counsels and defends clients on a wide variety of employment-related matters such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, restrictions against unfair competition, and claims of discrimination in violation of Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

A large part of Merrell’s practice is devoted to ensuring that clients comply with applicable federal and state employment laws by conducting employment audits, reviewing corporate handbooks, assisting clients in conducting internal investigations of claimed discrimination and giving presentations on various employment law topics.

Prior to joining private practice, Merrell spent seven years as a trial lawyer for the US Department of Justice, Tax Division. During her tenure with the federal government, she tried more than 20 cases in federal and state courts and took hundreds of depositions.

Merrell is the author of the chapter on the Americans With Disabilities Act in Employment Law in Virginia, a book published by the Virginia Bar Association.
