Matthew Ohre focuses his practice on complex and high stakes commercial litigation matters throughout the United States. His areas of expertise include matters involving breach of contract and business torts such as disputes involving fraud, securities, interference with business advantage, trademark infringement, product liability, noncompete and nonsolicit agreements, banking and breach of fiduciary duty. He has substantial experience trying cases both in state and federal courts as well as before arbitration panels. Matthew has considerable experience in obtaining preliminary and permanent injunctive relief on a variety of issues including misappropriation of trade secrets, noncompete agreements and specific performance of contract. Matthew also has experience in post-trial matters including preventing fraudulent transfers by defendants, and obtaining and executing on judgments.
Matthew is a former senior associate editor of the American Bar Association’s The Labor Lawyer. Prior to joining Squire Sanders, Matthew served as a law clerk to Judge John C. Gemmill of the Arizona Court of Appeals.
Matthew serves on Squire Sanders hiring committee and speaks on a variety of CLE topics including issues involving litigation management and support, and discovery and trial preparation. In 2009 Matthew co-authored an article in The Banking Law Journal on check fraud.
Representative Experience
- Defending several major private equity firms against breach of contract and fraud-related claims arising out of a sale of securities. The case was dismissed on a dispositive motion.
- Defending various national banks against claims of lender liability, securities fraud, breach of contract, equitable subordination and breach of fiduciary duty.
- Securing preliminary and permanent injunctive relief against a variety of individual and corporate defendants for breach of noncompete and nonsolicit agreements, tortious interference and misappropriation of trade secrets.
- Defending a large car auction company against claims of fraud, consumer fraud, breach of contract and negligence. The case was dismissed on a dispositive motion and attorneys’ fees were awarded to the client.
- Serving as first chair in arbitration in dispute between business partners involving claims of fraud and breach of contract.
- Serving as Arizona trial counsel for an international tire manufacturer in the defense of allegedly defective tires.
- Serving as second chair in a federal jury trial involving a major Internet domain name registration and web hosting company on claims for trademark infringement, unfair competition and violation of the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act. The jury ruled in favor of the client and permanent injunctive relief was issued.
- Representing a large oil company against mass tort environmental claims arising out of a closed refinery.
- Serving as second chair in a bench trial involving a breach of commercial lease. The court ruled in favor of client on all counts and the decision was affirmed on appeal.
- Defending various clients against claims alleging violation of noncompete agreements, misappropriation of trade secrets and tortious interference with business advantage.
