Partner

Michael Shaw has a broad commercial real estate practice with particular emphasis on investment and the requirements of occupiers. He works closely with his clients to give advice which is always commercially aware as well as technically sound.

Michael covers all aspects of investment in real estate. He represents investors from institutions to individuals in respect of the acquisition, funding, management and disposal of all kinds of real estate assets, including indirect investment through corporate vehicles. He has a particular interest in inward investment into the UK from China and East Asia.

Michael represents corporate occupiers of real estate in relation to all their needs, such as taking new leases and negotiating exits from them, sale and leaseback transactions and raising finance on real estate holdings. In the current downturn he has advised particularly on ways in which occupiers can renegotiate lease terms to their advantage.

Michael has been recognised by The Legal 500 UK each year since 2008 which notes that “Clients praise [our] transactional abilities, and single out Michael Shaw for praise” and Michael is “very strong”.
