Lianne Mantione

Lianne Mantione focuses her practice on all aspects of environmental law with particular emphasis on litigation of complex environmental matters and counseling clients on compliance with environmental regulations. In addition to her juris doctor, Lianne holds a master’s degree in environmental studies.
Lianne is also a member of the Squire Sanders eDiscovery & Data Management Team, which serves as a resource for lawyers and clients in matters involving the preservation and discovery of electronic documents.
She is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Environmental Section and Section on Women in the Law.
Representative Experience

Participating in the ongoing defense of, and extensive settlement negotiations on behalf of, a US-based iron and steel manufacturer in multiple federal and state toxic tort cases including a property damage class action based on alleged air pollution.

Participating in the ongoing defense of a paper industry leader in a toxic tort class action and key victory on an issue of first impression under the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 (CAFA) before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. The court held that plaintiffs bear the burden of establishing exceptions to CAFA’s grant of federal jurisdiction, in this case, the Local Controversy Exception. Evans v. Walter Industries, Inc., 449 F.3d 1159 (11th Cir. 2006).

Participating in the ongoing defense of a paper industry leader in multiparty CERCLA cost-recovery and contribution litigation.

Participating in the defense of an Ohio EPA enforcement action against a privately-owned landfill involving alleged violations of Ohio’s solid waste and groundwater regulations.
- Counseling corporate and municipal clients on Title V and new source permitting and compliance issues under the Clean Air Act.
