Lisa F. Bockelman

Legislative Adviser

Lisa Bockelman is a legislative adviser for Squire Sanders Public Advocacy, LLC. Since joining the firm she has successfully drafted and implemented policies for clients regarding federal and state political activity. In addition, she administers government affairs compliance including the preparation and filing of federal lobbying reports that meet the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, the Lobbying Disclosure Act, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and various state and local lobbying rules. She also administers the firm’s Political Action Committee party contributions.

Lisa previously worked with Altria, where she successfully led a collaboration with her DC colleagues and Altria’s Latin America-based team to quickly confirm and secure reliable, key information that supported the office’s legislative strategy on the Central American Free Trade Agreement, which was passed by Congress in 2005. She also administered the company’s corporate contributions and was a member of the Altria Employee Fund.

Lisa previously held several positions at Georgetown University Medical Center. She led the Medical Center’s effort to revise the physician credentialing process that saved the Department of Medicine US$10 million per year. In addition Lisa served as the grant administrator in the Department of Medicine. Her responsibilities included negotiating budgets and clinical trial contracts with national and international pharmaceutical companies. She also tracked federal appropriations bills pertaining to the Department of Medicine’s research funding requests and managed a US$18 million research budget.

Lisa began her career by working for Republican Senate Leader Robert J. Dole. While working for Senator Dole she drafted legislation and memos, and monitored and suggested legislation for the senator to introduce or co-sponsor. Lisa served as the senator’s office delegate to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in New York in 1992.
