Laura Davis

Associate

After completing her training contract with the Firm, Laura Davis qualified into the Firm’s employment practice in 2006 and became an Associate Level 2 in 2009.  Laura initially worked in the London office but now works in the Birmingham office. 

Laura advises on all aspects of employment law, both contentious and non-contentious, including recruitment issues, senior management appointments, disputes and departures, disciplinary, performance and grievance procedures, whistleblowing, family and maternity rights, employment aspects of business re-organisations, mergers and acquisitions including TUPE, restrictive covenants, confidentiality, data protection and Employment Tribunal litigation.

Laura is regularly asked to draft or review a range of employment documentation including service agreements, consultancy agreements, director appointment letters, compromise agreements, handbooks and policies and to negotiate warranties and indemnities in connection with corporate transactions. 

Laura frequently attends hearings in the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal on behalf of both employees and employers.  She has acted on numerous multi-day Tribunal claims including in connection with allegations of unlawful dismissal, discrimination, victimisation, harassment, whistleblowing and breach of contract.  She has also been involved in a number of successful mediations and settlement negotiations.

Laura’s clients range from senior individuals to multi-national corporations in a variety of business sectors, including the financial services, recruitment, hospitality, entertainment and aviation sectors.    

Laura regularly presents at seminars and training sessions organised by the Firm and clients.

Representative Experience

    • Assisting a publicly funded organisation in defending a complex Tribunal claim of unfair dismissal, whistleblowing and discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of disability, sex and sexual orientation/transexuality;
    • Advising a national recruitment agency on employee competition issues, involving a review of the relevant confidentiality and post-termination restrictions including in the context of Linked-In and the defence of injunction proceedings;
    • Advising a household-name corporate on the TUPE issues arising from its sale of half of its UK operations and negotiating the associated warranties and indemnities within an extremely tight timescale;
    • Advising in relation to a claim by a City Trader for underpayment of bonus and assisting with proceedings to Court of Appeal level.
