Kevin Connor serves as the coordinating partner for Squire Sanders’ Middle East and North Africa (MENA) practice. He is resident in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he works in the offices of Squire Sanders’ independent network firm, EK Partners & Al-Enezee Legal Counsel (EKP), and also spends a portion of his time in EKP’s Beirut, Lebanon office. After having spent 18 years providing legal support and guidance on numerous projects throughout emerging Central Europe, Kevin brings significant experience to the region. He has advised a broad range of companies and foreign investors on various aspects of international business law, particularly in acquisition-related matters, energy, infrastructure projects, commercial disputes and finance.
In addition to his broad corporate practice, Kevin represents energy concerns and utilities on various power development projects. He is especially known for his work with the development, construction, financing and operation of nuclear power plants. Throughout his career, he has handled a wide range of corporate financings including loan facilities, eurobonds, syndicated financings and domestic bond issues.
Kevin previously served as managing partner of Squire Sanders’ Bratislava, Budapest and Warsaw offices, and also led the firm’s European energy practice. In addition, he worked for three years in the firm’s Prague office, concentrating on commercial law, bankruptcy, corporate restructuring, real estate and secured lending. He has represented numerous multinational companies throughout Central and Eastern Europe including South Central Europe.
Kevin is a frequent lecturer and contributor to conferences, periodicals and legal treatises. He is a member of the International Bar Association’s Eastern European Forum and a past president of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic. In
Chambers Global 2010 and
Chambers Europe 2010, Kevin was named a leading individual for corporate and commercial matters in Hungary. He also is listed in
European Legal Experts 2009 for his corporate and finance expertise.
Representative Experience
- Representing a Saudi Arabia-based telecommunications company in disputes arising under interconnection and data services agreements.
- Assisting a Bahrain-based insurance company in connection with the transfer of certain business assets, liabilities and contracts to newly listed Saudi affiliate operating under a license from the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA).
- Representing a major US-based manufacturer in connection with the establishment of a joint venture in Abu Dhabi.
- Representing a Europe-based finance provider with the provision of a €12 million mezzanine financing facility to a borrower in Turkey as well as with related warrants and security documentation.
- Representing a Europe-based electric utility with the development of various hydro-electric projects in Turkey.
- Acting as lead lawyer on corporate financings valued at more than US$1.5 billion.
