Julie Schwartz focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts. Julie has represented clients in a wide variety of matters, including class actions, products liability and mass tort actions, Proposition 65 disputes, ERISA and insurance coverage actions and business contract disputes. She has had substantial experience in discovery and dispositive motion practice.
Julie is a co-founding board member and secretary of the California-Asia Business Council, Young Professionals, a group dedicated to building and cultivating new business relationships, entrepreneurial endeavors, social and networking opportunities and promoting civic leadership among the younger Asia-focused generation of business professionals.
In law school, Julie won the 2008 New York University National Immigration Law Moot Court Competition and received the second runner-up best oralist award. She was also a finalist at the 38th Annual Irving L. Neumiller Memorial Moot Court Competition and regional quarterfinalist at the National Moot Court Competition in 2007.
Julie received the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Constitutional Law II and Negotiations.
Representative Experience
- Achieving summary judgment with successful arguments based on the interpretation of a fee agreement in a contract dispute on behalf of a leading venture debt firm.
- Managing and preparing pleadings, motions and other briefings for hundreds of oral contraceptive product liability cases pending in state court, federal court, the Judicial Council Coordinated Proceeding and the multidistrict litigation proceeding on behalf of Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies.
- Obtaining favorable settlement of a Song-Beverly Credit Card Act class action for a national retailer of products for pets.
- Resolving a Proposition 65 action on behalf of an Italy-based luxury fashion house.
- Preparing motions for judgment and other briefings for ERISA disputes on behalf of an international insurer.
- Defending consumer class actions on behalf of one of the largest retailers in the United States.
- Preparing jurisdictional, discovery and dispositive motions for an unfair competition and false labeling action on behalf of a national distributor of fine hand-knitting yarns.
