John Kirsner acts as both counsel and advocate for insurance companies, health plans, managed care organizations, hospitals, other healthcare providers and governmental organizations.
His extensive transactional work with insurers and health plans includes mergers and acquisitions and joint venturing. He also has considerable experience dealing with legislative matters, focusing on insurance regulation, health plan liability and patient bill of rights issues. His transaction experience particularly focuses on electronic commerce in health insurance and healthcare.
John’s managed care experience includes network formation, managed care contracting and an emphasis on managed care insolvency issues such as bankruptcy, liquidation and workout arrangements.
His experience in representing hospitals and other healthcare providers involves significant joint venture transactional work, contract analysis, regulatory review and compliance issues.
John is a frequent speaker at local, regional and national conferences relating to managed care and other health law issues. He has also published a number of articles on these topics. John is the author of the chapter, “Antitrust Issues in Managed Care Contracting,” published in the sixth edition of
Health Plans Contracting Handbook in 2011. He is also the co-author of
Managed Care Contracting Survival Guide for Healthcare Providers, published by HCPro Inc. in 2006. Additionally, his book chapter, “Protecting Against Payor Insolvency,” was published in the 2001 edition of the
American Health Lawyers Association’s Managed Care Contracting Handbook.
John is a past chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Health Care Law Committee and is currently co-chair of the Online Membership Services Advisory Panel. He is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. John has been listed in
The Best Lawyers in America since 2007. He has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer each year since 2006 and in 2005 Super Lawyers listed him among its Rising Stars.
