Jordan Kroop is a partner in Squire Sanders’ Restructuring & Insolvency Practice Group, resident in the Phoenix and New York offices. His practice emphasizes corporate bankruptcy, reorganization and restructuring matters. Jordan represents publicly traded and privately held corporate debtors and significant creditors including secured lenders, official creditor committees, commercial lessors and financial institutions in some of the largest Chapter 11 cases in the nation. He has also handled disputes concerning corporate and real property taxation, asset-based financing, consumer protection laws and partnership liability.

Jordan frequently appears before federal courts throughout the country and has accumulated substantial courtroom experience in motion practice, evidentiary hearings and appellate proceedings. He has represented clients in dozens of industries including heavy manufacturing, high-tech, real estate development, hospitality, gaming, retail and construction. The national restructuring publication Turnarounds & Workouts named Jordan as one of the nation’s 12 Outstanding Young Bankruptcy Lawyers. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2009 and has been listed in Southwest Super Lawyers, a distinction honoring the top 5 percent of lawyers in the region, each year since 2007.

Among his more notable recent engagements, Jordan served as debtor’s counsel for the Phoenix Coyotes, the National Hockey League team, in its Chapter 11 filing and subsequent sale. Jordan has represented the senior secured lender in some of the largest recent Chapter 11 cases in the Western United States including restructurings for a large REIT and the largest operator of car washes in Arizona. Jordan has also served as debtor’s counsel for Three-Five Systems, Inc., a former global leader in the manufacturing of microdisplays for high-tech consumer electronics and Trussway Industries, Inc., a nationally prominent manufacturer of roofing components. Jordan served as lead debtor’s counsel for American Architectural Products Corp., a leading manufacturer of commercial and residential fenestration products; the Russian Tea Room, a world-famous restaurant in New York City; and Aspen Furniture, Inc., a leading national manufacturer of hardwood and wood-laminate furniture. He also served as counsel to the unsecured creditors’ committee of McCulloch Corporation.

Jordan is the co-author of “Chapter 11 Cases Involving Professional Sports Franchises” in the Collier Guide to Chapter 11: Key Topics and Selected Industries (LexisNexis, 2011) and the two-volume treatise Bankruptcy Litigation and Practice: A Practitioner’s Guide (Aspen, 4th Ed., 2008), as well as the previous third edition of that treatise (Aspen, 3rd Ed., 2000) and The Executive Guide to Corporate Bankruptcy (Beard Books, 2nd Ed., 2010). He is the author of dozens of articles published in national bankruptcy-related periodicals and is a frequent speaker at national and regional seminars and symposia. He has served as an instructor of bankruptcy trial techniques for the American Bankruptcy Institute for the last three years and has been a professor of international commercial arbitration at the University of Salzburg (Austria) through the McGeorge School of Law. He is an adjunct professor of bankruptcy litigation and an occasional lecturer on business law topics and international commercial arbitration at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.

Jordan is a member of the editorial advisory board of the American Bankruptcy Institute. He has served in leadership positions on boards of trustees for Jewish schools, charities and service organizations.
