James V. Dick

Senior Counsel

James Dick has focused his practice on antitrust and other complex litigation and regulatory matters for more than two decades. He came to Squire Sanders after serving as an attorney in the US government for several years, including service on the White House staff (Office of the President), as counsel to a US Senate investigating committee and in the US Department of Justice, Antitrust Division.

James is a member of the American Bar Association and the Association’s Antitrust Section Leadership Group. He is the former chair and vice chair of the Transportation Industry Committee of the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section. He also is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association.

Representative Experience

    • Representing a major urban water and sewer district in connection with media allegations of unsafe and hazardous practices.
    • Participating in a multi-district proceeding involving an alleged conspiracy to monopolize the transportation of iron ore to steel mills on behalf of a major steel company subsidiary.
    • Participating in an internal investigation of a government agency for possible criminal and civil violations of law by senior personnel.
    • Representing a major US glass manufacturer and its non-US parent in multi-district class actions alleging price-fixing of flat glass.
    • Representing a major US-based airline in actions alleging electronic price-fixing brought by the US Department of Justice and by governmental and private classes of passengers.
    • Counseling on antitrust aspects of B2B and B2C Internet ventures. Advising on the internal investigation of major companies for compliance with antitrust and other laws.
    • Representing a global airline in an antitrust class action alleging price-fixing of international fares. 
    • Representing the Federal Home Loan Bank in a fraud case against former officers of a failed savings and loan association.
    • Counseling on federal civil actions and administrative proceedings involving computer systems on behalf of both US and non-US companies.
    • Representing a law firm alleged to be a co-conspirator in a market exclusion case involving the transportation of coal.
    • Participating in an alleged monopolization case on behalf of an oil well company.
    • Representing a major US-based airline in private class action alleging a conspiracy by airlines to reduce/eliminate travel agent commissions.
    • Providing antitrust counseling of trade associations.
    • Representing a potential defendant, a major US city, in a DOJ market allocation investigation in the energy industry.
    • Advising on an antitrust grand jury and civil investigative demand investigations on behalf of US and non-US companies.
