James Retallack is a lawyer in our Birmingham office with both private practice and in-house experience. After 20 years in private practice, he joined the board of Aggregate Industries plc to manage the company's legal requirements and a range of other responsibilities. Following the acquisition of Aggregate Industries plc by Holcim, a global construction materials company, James continued to manage a range of responsibilities in both the UK and the United States and served as group legal and compliance director before returning to practice at Squire Sanders in 2011.

James is an employment lawyer with extensive experience in corporate transactions which enables him to advise clients tactically and strategically on both the employment and corporate aspects of their transactions and day to day business activities. James represents a diverse range of clients including manufacturers, construction companies, professional firms, financial institutions, and sports clubs and governing bodies. As in-house counsel he has experience handling a wide range of legal and compliance issues including M&A, employment, pensions, disputes, contracts, competition and compliance matters. As a former senior partner and board director of one of the constituent members of our global legal practice, James has a mix of practical management experience that enables him to provide clients with practical insights into dispute resolution for speedy and cost-effective solutions to their disputes.
