With a litigation practice spanning more than 120 years and intellectual property lawyers having a wealth of practical and technological experience, we represent clients in all types of intellectual property litigation. Beyond experience and expertise, however, our focus on client goals, needs and value is what distinguishes our IP Litigation Practice from other law firms.

We work proactively with clients to develop strategies for securing the best protection available for their patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets (“best protection” being sometimes different than “broadest protection”). At the same time, we help clients develop strategies for avoiding IP infringement assertions by others. In either case, the key to doing so is understanding our client’s industry, technology and competition and crafting the strategy that achieves the highest value for money spent.

When disputes bubble up to the surface, we focus on the optimal outcome for our client. When our client’s goals are best served by it, we evaluate alternative dispute resolution options first. We have developed particularly creative resolutions in circumstances where the parties desire and/or necessarily will have continuing relationships.

But when circumstances demand litigation, we enforce or defend our client’s rights utilizing the full force of our extensive litigation and intellectual property expertise.

Our litigation and other contentious work spans all substantive areas of the IP realm. Equally important is where we have acquired that experience: US federal and state trial and appellate courts; the UK High Court and Patent County Courts; the US International Trade Commission; the US Patent and Trademark Office Board of Appeals and Interferences; the European Patent Office; and the Copyright Tribunal (UK). We have also represented clients in arbitration proceedings under the auspices of all of the leading arbitral organizations including the International Chamber of Commerce, American Arbitration Association, London Court of International Arbitration, Japan Commercial Arbitration Association and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, as well as ad hoc arbitrations under UNCITRAL.
