Iain McPhie focuses his practice on antitrust and international trade matters.
His antitrust practice includes merger review representation before the Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Justice, as well as both civil and criminal antitrust litigation and government investigations. He has counseled clients on domestic and international activities including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and marketing and distribution practices, in addition to advertising and other consumer protection issues. He has handled numerous merger filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act and coordinates non-US filings for multijurisdictional transactions.
Iain’s international trade practice includes antidumping and countervailing duty trade remedy cases before the US International Trade Commission and the US Department of Commerce as well as non-US trade authorities. Iain also represents clients before the Committee of Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and has experience with a number of federal regulatory agencies including US Customs and Border Protection and the Food and Drug Administration.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Iain advised Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) on energy and environmental regulatory policy issues.
Iain is a member of the firm’s E-Discovery & Data Management Team, which serves as a resource for lawyers and clients in matters involving the preservation and discovery of electronic documents.
Iain has published and spoken on a variety of antitrust and international trade issues. He is a member of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association and is a contributor to the Antitrust Section’s Antitrust Law Developments and 2006 Annual Review of Antitrust Law Developments.
