Iliana Haleen

Iliana Haleen’s practice focus is intellectual property law encompassing national and multijurisdictional brand portfolio management, trademark clearance and prosecution.

She also has extensive experience in trademark licensing and the design and implementation of multijurisdictional enforcement programs. Iliana represents and counsels multinational clients on anticounterfeiting measures in cooperation with customs authorities with the goal of combating cross-border trafficking of counterfeit goods and preventing parallel imports. She also cooperates with the corporate practice group on intellectual property issues regarding due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and outsourcings.

Iliana has appeared in appeal cases before the General Court of the European Union and regularly represents clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the EU trademark agency OHIM and the German Patent and Trademark Office.

Iliana is a member of the Frankfurt Bar Association, Sofia Bar Association, the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR).

    • Managing the international portfolio of nearly 1,500 trademarks registered in more than 140 countries for a US-based consumer goods company.
    • Drafting worldwide trademark license agreements for a US-based consumer goods company.
    • Advising US-based companies on trademark filing strategies in the EU.
    • Representing a large US-based hotel chain before the German Federal Patent Court (BPatG) in a trademark opposition proceeding.
    • Representing a US-based consumer goods company in numerous opposition and cancellation proceedings before the EU trademark agency OHIM.
    • Advising a US-based hotel management company on trademark planning, filing and defense strategies in the EU.
    • Representing the trademark portfolio of a Germany-based manufacturer of cosmetic and healthcare products.
    • Representing the European trademark portfolio of a US-based manufacturer of hobby products.
    • Representing a US-based multinational electronics manufacturing services provider in an acquisition of the IP protected technology of a Singapore-based company.
    • Representing a US-based consumer goods company in an acquisition of a UK-based company and its international IP portfolio.
