James H. (Jake) Broderick Jr. is the managing partner of the Los Angeles office and a member of the firm’s commercial litigation and appellate litigation practices. He represents clients in a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters with a particular emphasis on financial institution litigation, the representation of foreign interests in US litigation and international arbitration. Jake is listed in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America and has been so listed annually since 2007. He has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer in a survey of his peers each year since 2004.

After graduation from law school and prior to joining the firm full time, Jake spent 18 months in Tokyo under the auspices of a Japanese Ministry of Education fellowship as a research fellow with the law faculty of Sophia University, engaged in research and study in Japan’s antitrust laws and constitutional law.

As a practicing lawyer, Jake has successfully represented US and non-US banks; pharmaceutical companies; electronics manufacturers; municipal, state and federal governmental agencies; and non-US governments in the defense of shareholder derivative actions, lender liability lawsuits, consumer class actions, wrongful termination claims, state unfair competition claims, real property disputes, antitrust cases, securities litigation, wrongful expropriation claims and RICO litigation. He also has substantial appellate experience and was the lead attorney and oral advocate before the California Supreme Court in the 2000 case Rosales v. Depuy Ace Medical Company. He has been recognized by the State Bar of California and Public Counsel of Los Angeles for his work in pro bono litigation in the area of home equity fraud.

Jake is a member of the American Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

• Defending successfully an action in federal court in Pennsylvania for control of a US subsidiary of a Japan-based printing company.
• Defending successfully four Ohio-based banks in unfair competition and business tort claims arising out of bank financing related to an alleged fraudulent equipment leasing operation in California.
• Defending successfully a US-based pharmaceutical manufacturer in one-month arbitration of whistleblower and wrongful termination claims brought by the former president of a US subsidiary.
