Ivan Trifonov is the managing partner of the firm’s Moscow office. He has been practicing law since 1992. His practice focuses on energy and mining law. In addition, he has extensive practice in corporate and regulatory legislation.
Ivan handles project structuring and legal risk analysis in various jurisdictions, negotiation and drafting agreements and contracts in connection with projects in a variety of industries, corporate reorganizations and preparation of settlement agreements. 

Ivan has been working in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia since 1993 and is knowledgeable about the legal systems of Central Asia countries. Since 2008, he has been working in Ethiopia and other countries in East Africa.

In 1991 Ivan served as a senior assistant diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the former Soviet Union and was a member of the Soviet Mission to the United Nations in New York. In 1992 he provided legal counsel to a major international corporation’s office in Moscow.

Ivan is a member of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. Ivan was listed in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers for his mining expertise. He was named a project finance and energy expert in European Legal Experts 2009 and recommended by Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers as a leader in energy matters, specifically the mining field. He also appears in the 2011 edition of Russia’s Best Lawyers for energy and natural resources and mining. Ivan holds a PhD in History.
