Fernanda Crespo

Associate

Fernanda Crespo is a Brazil and Portugal qualified lawyer. She studied Law at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in Brazil, where she graduated in 2004. In 2008, she obtained her LL.M. in International Business Law from the London School of Economics (United Kingdom), with honours. Fernanda’s particular expertise covers International and EU Trade laws, World Trade Organization (WTO) law and Brazilian law.

Fernanda joined our International Trade & Export Controls Practice Group in Brussels in 2009, after completing her stage at the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission. Fernanda has also worked for the Brazilian Centre for International Relations (CEBRI) as a project assistant and participated in the Trade Defence and Policy Training Programme of the Embassy of Brazil in Washington DC. Fernanda has worked as an intern for the UN Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and also, for the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES).

Fernanda advises and represents governments and corporations on specific issues relating to EU and international trade, including trade defence instruments and WTO law.

Fernanda is a member member of the ABCI Institute - Brazilian International Trade Scholars, Inc. and the OAB-RJ Commission for International Trade.

 

Representative Experience

    • Assisting Brazil's government in several WTO disputes.
    • Representing a Korea-based company and a Turkey-based association in an antidumping investigation in Brazil targeting imports of a steel product from multiple sources.
    • Representing a China-based producer of ironing boards in an antidumping investigation targeting that company only.
    • Representing an India-based exporter on the antidumping and anti-subsidy investigations on stainless steel cold-finished bars.
    • Advising a mining association on the negotiation of a sectoral chapter in a FTA.
    • Representing all four Korea-based producers, one large China-based producer and twelve users in Europe in the EU antidumping investigation on imports of high tenacity yarn of polyester originating in China, Korea and Taiwan.
    • Representing two China-based producers of fasteners in an appeal before the EU General Court against antidumping duties imposed on imports of this product from China.
