Eugenia Bektasheva, partner in Squire Sanders’ Financial Services Practice Group in Moscow, has substantial banking experience in representing international lenders and borrowers in Russia on the structuring and implementation of various finance transactions including syndicated and bilateral secured and unsecured loans.

Eugenia has been involved in a number of high-profile project finance, export finance, real estate finance and refinancing transactions for clients in Europe, Russia and the US. She has advised on various types of acquisitions, finance and security agreements and deal structures (involving direct asset acquisition and acquisition of shares) regarding real estate and other assets, and has participated in construction, insurance, valuation and operational aspects of those transactions. She also advises clients on a broad range of corporate and M&A transactions, joint ventures, private equity deals, and restructuring and insolvency procedures.

Representative Experience

    • Advising Czech Export Bank on a number of export finance facilities.
    • Advising Dataspace Partners on a US$150 million loan from OPIC (Overseas Private Investment Corporation), the US Government’s development finance institution, for the development of up to six new professional data centers with a modern IT infrastructure in Moscow.
    • Advising major international banks (Unicredit, Raiffeisen Bank AG, Aareal Bank AG, Eurohypo Bank AG, Credit Suisse AG) on refinancing existing debt and financing new projects.
    • Advising a consortium of leading international investment funds and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on a project involving acquisition of a 100-percent interest in the largest pharmaceuticals and diagnostics holding company in Russia.
    • Representing the sellers of one of the largest Russia-based fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturers in the transaction with an investment fund acting as a strategic investor.
    • Representing Troika Dialog in a transaction involving leveraged acquisition of an interest in a Donbass-based industrial company, a leading steelmaker in Europe.
    • Advising the EBRD on a US$75 million loan to one of the largest electricity generating companies in Central and Eastern Europe.
    • Advising Morgan Stanley on a joint venture for the purpose of providing portfolio and asset management services including strategic advice to corporations.
