Wendlene Lavey is a partner in the Environmental, Safety & Health Practice Group, resident in the firm’s Cleveland office. Wendlene has a broad range of experience in environmental compliance counseling, permitting, site investigation and remediation, multimedia enforcement activities, environmental and health and safety management systems and environmental litigation. She has worked for clients in the private sector, particularly the iron and steel and chemical industries, as well as in the public sector. Wendlene has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2009 and is recognized in The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers 2011 Annual Compendium.

Wendlene’s litigation experience includes defense of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) cost recovery and contribution claims, toxic tort lawsuits and enforcement proceedings. Wendlene’s non-litigation experience focuses on providing clients with day-to-day counseling on regulatory compliance and permitting across all major regulatory programs, as well as higher level strategic advice. Her goal is to truly “partner” with her clients, ensuring that we are providing the most effective and efficient service. As a key aspect of this partnering, she makes a point of understanding her clients’ operations, strategic goals, community relationships and sustainability concerns.

Wendlene is a member of the American Bar Association Section on Environment, Energy & Resources, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association (CMBA). She is currently a trustee for the CMBA Environmental Law Section and is also an active member of the CMBA Women in the Law Section. Wendlene’s community activities include serving as Squire Sander’s coordinator for the CMBA – Cleveland City Schools “Three Rs Program” and as a volunteer through Legal Aid’s Domestic Violence program assisting women to obtain civil protection orders.
