Ekaterina Kotova

Associate

Ekaterina Kotova focuses her practice on real estate and project finance matters. Ekaterina has substantial experience in commercial, industrial and residential real estate development and investments in such projects, both in Moscow and Russian regions, including drafting all types of agreements used in real property transactions; working with Russian real estate investment funds; leasing of office, warehouse and other commercial properties; due diligence of various real estate objects including objects of cultural heritage in Moscow and various Russian regions; and advising on construction regulations and investment contracts with the government.

Ekaterina has worked on a number of projects and transactions nominated for the Moscow Commercial Real Estate Awards in 2008.

Ekaterina practiced law with international firms in Moscow for five years prior to joining Squire Sanders in 2008.

Representative Experience

    • Advising a Central Europe-based state-owned bank in connection with the proposed financing of the construction of a mixed use commercial property in the city of Sochi, Russia.
    • Representing a Russia-based developer in financing the construction of a large office complex in Moscow through a shared construction agreement (“Deal of the Year” nominee in Commercial Real Estate Awards 2008).
    • Representing an international development company as the landlord of a class A office building in Moscow in more than 20 leases of office and retail premises (“Class A Office Building” nominee in Commercial Real Estate Awards 2008).
    • Advising a subsidiary of a large Russian state-owned railway company on the acquisition of title to an office building in Moscow constructed under an investment contract with the Moscow Government and participation in a Russia-based closed real estate shared participation fund.
    • Advising an international development company on investment into the construction of a large residential complex in the Moscow region through an agreement on shared participation.
    • Advising a major UK-based company on investment in the development of warehouse property in Saint-Petersburg region.
    • Advising a private international real estate fund on investment in the development of a retail complex in Tver, Russia.
    • Advising Canada- and Spain-based real estate investment companies on acquisition of agricultural land plots in various Russian regions.
    • Advising a US-based developer as the landlord of a class A office complex in Moscow on the enforceability of provisions of a major office lease.
    • Advising a Switzerland-based pharmaceutical company on the acquisition of offices in Moscow.
    • Representing the landlord of class B office buildings in Moscow in a number of office leases, and preparation of a standard office lease for a large office complex in Moscow.
    • Advising Russia-based oil and gold mining companies on real estate matters in view of their IPO and prospective M&A transactions.
