Derek R. Lowrey assists clients with all aspects of intellectual property law including copyright and trademark registration, trade secret protection, licensing, technology transfers, litigation, and portfolio management.

As judicial extern to The Honorable James Ware, Chief Judge of the US District Court, Northern District of California, Derek researched federal and state precedent, prepared and drafted orders, and made weekly presentations of his draft orders to the judge.

Prior to joining Squire Sanders, Derek worked at Lucasfilm, Ltd. where he interned in the Legal/Business Affairs Department. At Lucasfilm, Derek drafted numerous contracts and licenses, conducted trademark and copyright clearances for video games and television shows, and drafted a legal brief on copyright issues as part of Lucasfilm’s appeal to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.
