Daniela Collado

Daniela Collado focuses her practice on foreign investment, economic regulation and international trade including WTO (World Trade Organization) and market access issues. Daniela provides advice on international trade and investment related issues under WTO, TBI and Regional Trade Agreements.
She also has substantial experience in corporate transactions, drafting and negotiating contracts such as franchise agreements, service provision agreements, share purchase agreements and shareholders’ loan and security agreements.
She has been a speaker on international trade related issues in the Dominican Republic with United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the European Law Students Association (ELSA).
Daniela teaches international economic law and is the former Director of the Master on International Relations at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in Santo Domingo. Daniela is a member of the Dominican Bar Association and a founding member of the legal Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Dominican Republic.
Representative Experience
- Acting as Dominican Republic counsel for regulatory issues to the second largest telecom carrier in the country in Chapter 11 restructuring involving more than US$650 million in debt.
- Representing local industry on the first antidumping measure cases pursuant to WTO provisions with local regulators.
- Advising multinational glass manufacturers on the first safeguard measures case presented in the Dominican Republic pursuant to WTO provisions with local regulators.
- Representing local industry on safeguard measure cases pursuant to WTO provisions with local regulators.
- Advising several clients before the custom authorities on WTO-CVA application.
- Advising non-Dominican Republic investors on the advantages of DR-CAFTA and EPA agreements, especially in relation to government regulations.
- Assisting an international client in filing aeronautical mobile satellite services operations in the Latin America and Caribbean regions.
- Representing important members of the tourism sector in copyright negotiations with affiliated copyright associations.
- Advising clients on intellectual property (IP) filing, registration and oppositions before the local IP regulator, and coordinate filing in the Latin American region.
- Advising a multinational household products manufacturer on environmental issues and filing for permits for existing facilities with the regulatory agent.
- Advising clients on foreign investment, especially in the tourism sector, project development, tax and corporate structure, time sharing, environmental matters and obtaining permits before regulatory agents.
- Advising clients on energy and telecommunications regulation.
- Representing non-Dominican Republic principals in agency and distribution issues including the drafting, negotiation, enforcement and termination of agreements under Dominican Agent/Distributor Protection Law No. 173.
- Advising multinational financing corporations in structuring and securing asset-based financing transactions in the Dominican Republic involving €550 million.
- Assisting a non-regulated energy user in developing regulatory strategies.
- Representing an international retailer in a merger and several corporate transactions in the Dominican Republic.
- Assisting the Dominican Ministry of Tourism as part of the legislative review committee.
