David Goodman

Partner

David Goodman is head of the UK national planning team within the Real Estate Practice Group at Squires Sanders. He has more than 25 years experience as a planning lawyer in local government and private practice. His particular expertise covers the obtaining of planning permission and other consents for development.

David is an experienced advocate who has appeared at inquiries into planning appeals, development plans, highway schemes and compulsory wayleaves. He advises in relation to various types of commercial development, including energy, waste, retailing, residential, leisure and motorway services. He has significant experience in obtaining consents for energy generation and transmission projects.

David has particular expertise in relation to the environmental impact regime and advises clients on the legal aspects of Environmental Statements. He has advised on a number of nationally significant infrastructure projects and the requirement for development consent.

David regularly speaks at seminars to planning and other professionals in relation to planning and related topics. He is a member of the Nuclear Industry Association Energy Policy Steering Group. Representative Experience

    • Advising on consents issues and the completion of planning agreements for coal and gas fired power stations and energy from waste projects.
    • Advising on consents for a 320 km gas pipeline from Milford Haven to Tirley in Gloucestershire and associated infrastructure works.
    • Advising on consents for onshore and offshore wind energy proposals, including acting as advocate at public inquiries.
    • Advising on consents and compulsory wayleaves for overhead electricity line proposals in England and Wales.
    • Advising on major retail proposals for a major supermarket operator.
