Christopher J. Petersen

Christopher Petersen focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation including business disputes involving leading international companies, governmental agencies and intellectual property matters.

Since joining Squire Sanders in 2007, Christopher has gained experience in all phases of civil litigation, from the initial pleading stage through the strategic use of pretrial law and motion, discovery, depositions and mediations, as well as trial proceedings. In 2008 he obtained a directed verdict as trial counsel for a major multinational corporation prosecuting a complex business dispute involving claims of breach of contract and fraud. In 2010 Christopher obtained a judgment of foreclosure and order of sale in excess of US$10 million as trial counsel for the City of West Covina in a breach of contract and judicial foreclosure action against the largest real estate developer in the city.

In addition to his commercial litigation experience, Christopher participates in the Public Counsel’s Adoptions Project, representing adopting parents in all phases of the adoption process.

    • Defending a major real estate investment trust in an action claiming breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and unfair business practices and successfully obtaining summary judgment.
    • Representing a multinational airline in the prosecution of claims related to a complex aircraft charter agreement and successfully obtaining a court order directing the release of funds at issue from an escrow account.
    • Obtaining an order amending a US$1 million judgment entered against an individual party to add a non-party individual based on an alter ego theory.
