European Community Law
Squire Sanders provides advice and counsel in the communications sector on all aspects of European Union legislation, regulation and policy, as well as on competition law. Our lawyers, particularly those based in Brussels and London, represent a range of clients before the European Commission (EC) Directorates-General for Competition, Information Society and Media, and Internal Market and Services, as well as the European Court of Justice. We are skilled in handling EC directives and proposals on communications and broadcast services (terrestrial and satellite), equipment and other matters that have an impact on many of our clients. We have been called upon to review and analyze EU and European Free Trade Association regulatory initiatives dealing with terminal equipment liberalization, Open Network Provision, equipment-type approval, satellite and mobile radio services. We also assist the EC itself in developing communications policies for the European Union.
Beyond the immediate area of communications, our lawyers are experienced in handling disputes before the EC that involve competition law, trade law and other matters. We provide counsel on the content and impact of EC public-procurement legislation and have participated in several procurement-related complaint proceedings before the EC. We also counsel both Europe- and US-based clients regarding EC legislation on mergers, privacy and specialized regulatory regimes.
