Cable Television
Squire Sanders lawyers were actively involved in the creation, financing and licensing of several of the largest and most innovative pan-European cable television ventures. We advise clients on the application of communications rules to cable networks, the liberalization of cable networks, how to provide services that compete with incumbent communications operators and the application of copyright rules to the retransmission of broadcasts through such networks.
In the United States, we have assisted both cable operators and major franchise authorities in all aspects of negotiating cable television franchise agreements. Our lawyers have also been involved in proceedings conducted by the US Federal Communications Commission that address the regulation of cable systems and the introduction of competition in the provision of set-top boxes, navigation devices and other customer-premises cable equipment.
