Bruce Legorburu’s practice spans mergers and acquisitions, licensing and commercialisation, joint ventures, outsourcing, franchising and commercial contracts with a focus on contracts for the acquisition of software and IT systems.
Bruce's experience includes advising on strategic intellectual property and brand management issues including registration and assertion of trademarks, trademark licences, and establishing ownership of copyright and protection of confidential information.
His technology regulatory experience includes matters such as privacy and encryption software restrictions. Bruce’s privacy work includes advising on isolated contractual data protection clauses and policies to full-scale multinational compliance reviews.
He is a member of the Intellectual Property Committee of The Law Society of Western Australia and is recognised by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific and Doyle’s Guide as a leading intellectual property lawyer.
Bruce routinely advises boards on general corporate compliance matters as well as specific transactions. He is an accredited Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) facilitator and has taught the Company Directors Course since 2008. He is a member of the Services Forum of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia.
In addition to being published in Australia-based and international journals, Bruce is a frequent speaker on corporate commercial, technology and intellectual property issues.

- Advising clients on standard form agreements and negotiated contracts with customers, prospective business partners, suppliers and subscribers.
- Advising an Australia-based biotech company on the AU$134 million licensing of its phylomer library for evaluation, research and development to an international pharmaceutical company for the discovery of peptide based vaccines.
- Advising on the introduction of a new car in Asia to the market in Australia including the master franchise and sub-franchise arrangements.
- Advising a Singapore-based transportation and logistics group on its SG$46.8million acquisition of a dispatch business in Australia.
- Advising a Malaysia-based resources group on the buyout of a 40-percent stake in an incorporated engineering joint venture from one of the existing joint venture parties based in Australia.
- Advising a US-based IT group on the acquisition of an Australia-based data storage business, elating to the operation of its digital data storage hardware and software business.
- Advising a US-based audio technology group on the acquisition of a technology business in Australia.
- Advising a member of the consortium supplying the AU$1.2billion Sydney-wide smart card ticketing system for buses, trains and ferries. The 15-year project will provide Sydney with a public transportation payment system similar to London's Oyster card.
- Advising an Australia-based utilities business on the separation of its IT systems from the legacy corporate group.
- Advising a consortium supplier to the Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder Project to be based in Australia.
