Barry Brown is an associate in Squire Sanders' Palo Alto office and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group. Barry focuses his practice on high-stakes intellectual property and commercial litigation related to high technology. He has represented clients in matters before several federal and state courts. Barry has experience in many aspects of intellectual property law and has handled trade secret, patent, copyright and trademark litigation cases. He handles significant matters for entities ranging from innovative Silicon Valley startups and their founders to established industry leaders.
While in law school, Barry served as a judicial extern for Judge Maxine M. Chesney, United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and Chief Judge David Alan Ezra, United States District Court for the District of Hawaii.
Representative Experience

Representing a computer peripheral distributor during a three-month jury trial on unfair competition, conspiracy, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), interference and related claims. The judgment rejected all claims for damage and awarded recovery on a cross claim.

Defending an author and owner of copyrights to a documentary and a bestselling book against claims of co-ownership asserted by a director of the documentary. Trial in the matter resulted in a defense verdict.

Representing an industry-leading cryogenic pump manufacturer in a dispute involving high-level employee raiding by a competitor. The dispute was successfully resolved when the competitor abandoned all raiding efforts.

Defending a data processing company against misappropriation of software-related trade secrets. Judgment was entered against the misappropriation claims.

Representing a Silicon Valley-based medical device manufacturer in an ownership dispute among company co-founders. The dispute was resolved when the co-founder granted all stock back to company.
