Anthony Van der Hauwaert

Anthony Van der Hauwaert heads the Belgian practice of Squire Sanders, and concentrates on corporate and finance transactions, with particular experience in structuring, negotiating and documenting cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, private equity, project finance and real estate transactions.

Anthony has worked on a variety of transactions throughout Eastern and Western Europe, the CIS countries and Northern Africa. He represents private and public companies in various industry sectors including real estate, pharmaceuticals, media and telecommunications, transportation and energy in both national and cross-border transactions.

Prior to joining Squire Sanders, Anthony worked for several years at a leading law firm in Belgium.

Anthony is a member of the Brussels Bar.

Representative Experience

    • Representing an Asia-based conglomerate in its acquisition of a Switzerland-based nanotechnology company.
    • Representing 3M in the acquisition of certain assets from a pharmaceutical logistics group.
    • Representing a Japan-based holding company in the sale of its European meat drying business.
    • Representing Inmarko, Russia’s leading ice cream manufacturer, and its investors, including EBRD and NORUM, in its sale to Unilever.
    • Coordinating the expansion of a US-listed company into Europe.
    • Counseling the government of Algeria in connection with the privatization of the incumbent telecom operator.
    • Advising in the restructuring and expansion of a CIS-based media group.
    • Advising on the refinancing of an international theme park operator.
    • Advising a US-listed company in connection with its acquisition of a Belgium-based hosting company.
    • Advising on the US$265 million acquisition of a Dutch tire manufacturer, Vredestein Banden B.V., by Amtel Tyres, one of Russia’s largest tire manufacturers.
    • Advising on the redevelopment and expansion of the Belgrade International Airport.
    • Representing a consortium of private equity investors led by Cable Partners Europe in its €2 billion acquisition of Belgian cable operator Telenet.
