Anita is a senior associate in our Environmental, Safety and Health Group. She specialises in environmental and sustainability matters, including waste, environmental permits, asbestos and contaminated land, and has particular expertise in climate change and emissions trading. She also has significant experience in the environmental aspects of property and corporate transactions, in particular in the industrial and brownfield redevelopment sectors.

Anita has been recognised by Legal 500 as “a notable expert on climate change and emissions trading issues”.

Prior to joining Squire Sanders Hammonds in 2010, Anita was a member of the environmental team at Eversheds LLP, and prior to that at Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw where she worked on both environmental and corporate/commercial matters.

Anita is a member of the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association and its Working Group on Climate Change.

Representative Experience

• Advising a waste operator on its responsibility for waste at a site which had been abandoned when a tenant went into liquidation;
• Advising the Confederation of Paper Industries and number of large companies on Climate Change Levy Agreements, the EU Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme and the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme;
• Advising a component manufacturing company on an appeal against conditions imposed into its environmental permit;
• Advising a producer compliance scheme under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations on the validity of its operational and business plans under these Regulations, in light of emerging case law, policy and market practice; and
• Advising a chemical company on the proposed acquisition of part of a chemicals business in the UK which involved many shared site and permitting issues.
