Andrew Batterton

Senior Associate

Andrew Batterton is a Senior Associate in our Real Estate Group based from our Leeds and Manchester offices. His particular expertise is as a planning and regeneration lawyer obtaining and defending challenges to planning permission and other consents for development and addressing land assembly through the exercise of compulsory purchase powers.

His experience extends to working for both the public and private sectors including local authorities, regional bodies, commercial developers, house builders, food and non-food retailers, investment banks and other financial institutions and statutory undertakers.

He has secured a number of regionally and nationally significant infrastructure and urban mixed use development and regeneration schemes around the country, including London. He advises at all stages of the process including representation at public inquiry.

In doing so, Andrew has a working knowledge of the array of considerations relevant to the promotion of major applications and land assembly including the promotion of outline and hybrid applications, phasing programmes and conditions, master-planning, design code principles, environmental statements, design and access statements, contribution frameworks, viability assessment, historic buildings/settings and ecology.

He also has experience of advising and defending enforcement proceedings, most recently for train operating companies. He is also promoting wind farm proposals as part of the Energy & Utilities Group.

He also offers assistance to buyers/sellers and corporate occupiers with planning related aspects of their transactions such as contracts conditional upon planning and realisation of development potential of existing sites.

Andrew regularly delivers clients presentation and seminars and is a member of the Compulsory Purchase Association. He was noted in Chambers UK 2008 as “an Associate to watch”.
