Ákos Mester

Ákos Mester focuses his practice on transactional matters: mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and project finance. In the commercial law area he works on complex contractual arrangements. He frequently counsels on various investments, real estate and private equity and drafts and negotiates real estate purchase and lease agreements as well as technology transfer agreements. Ákos’ regulatory experience includes financial and capital markets, competition and trade law.

Ákos’ recent transactions include several high-scale acquisitions, venture capital and strategic investments and project financings, as well as greenfield projects.

His clients are recruited from various industries and services including real estate, manufacturing, financial services, communications, energy, media and various technology industries.

Ákos was recognized for his real estate practice in Hungary in PLC Which lawyer? Yearbook 2009 and for his project finance practice by IFLR1000 2009.

He frequently speaks and publishes professional articles on a variety of legal topics and is also the co-author of a comprehensive handbook outlining the fundamentals of Hungarian business law, published by Kluwer Law International.

Ákos has been a member of the Budapest Bar Association since 1996.

Representative Experience

    • Counseling the European property group of a Wall Street powerhouse in the acquisition of seven special purpose entities owning multiple office complexes from a Germany-based closed-ended property fund for more than €107 million.
    • Counseling on the acquisition of more than €37 million by a Guernsey-based real estate investment fund in three Category A office buildings in Budapest.
    • Advising on a recommended cash offer of US$75 million by a major US-based financial institution for a leading Hungary-based commercial bank.
    • Counseling on a strategic investment of more than €23 million by a US-based venture capital fund consisting of multinational major North American financial institutions in a Hungary-based savings and loan cooperative.
    • Counseling on a US$100 million greenfield investment by a major US industrial corporation in Hungary.
    • Outsourcing the entire energy and utility provision system of a major Hungary-based vehicle manufacturer including negotiating and drafting a 20-year quasi-concession based energy-efficiency and supply contract.
    • Counseling on project financing in the form of a US$150 million syndicated loan facilitated by major Europe-based banks to several Hungary-based telephone service providers for the construction of their grids.
