Alexander M. Peterson

Alexander Peterson focuses his practice on cross-border corporate transactions and international trade matters.

Prior to joining Squire Sanders, Alexander served as a legal intern in the Appellate Body Secretariat of the World Trade Organization. He studied law at the University of Hong Kong and also pursued further legal education in China. He was the first American University student to participate in the school’s Dual Undergraduate Degree Program with Ritsumeikan University, during which he undertook university coursework in Japanese.

He is the author of several published academic works, including “Sino-Japanese Cooperation in the East China Sea: A Lasting Arrangement?”, which appeared in the Cornell International Law Journal in 2009.

    • Advising a leading global entertainment promotion company in connection with establishing a joint venture in Japan with a Japan-based partner company.
    • Advising a major Japan-based trading company in relation to its acquisition of a wholesaler of refined petroleum products located in the US.
    • Advising a leading Japan-based energy company on its acquisition of shares of a seller of refined petroleum products located in the South Pacific.
    • Representing a UK-based software company in relation to protecting its object code and source code in Japan.
    • Advising a global chemicals company in relation to international sanctions on Iran.
