Alan Heblack

Alan Heblack’s practice focuses on maritime law and commercial litigation.
Alan's clients include marine engineers and insurers, and ship owners. He has represented secured parties in marine bankruptcies and workouts. In addition to his maritime experience, Alan has represented banks, financial institutions, corporations and individuals in litigation and arbitration proceedings arising from contract disputes, creditors' rights and insolvency proceedings, maritime disputes, construction disputes and matters affecting international commerce. He has appeared before state and federal courts and arbitration proceedings.

Prior to private practice, Alan was a law clerk to The Honorable Eugene R. Wolin of the Supreme Court, State of New York.

He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Representative Experience

    • Defending a vessel classification society in a variety of litigation in courts in the United States arising from classification and survey work on vessels.
    • Defending a charterer in significant grounding and pollution incident on the
      Orinoco River.
    • Representing secured lenders in several marine bankruptcies involving cruise lines, tanker companies and bulk carriers.
    • Defending a risk assessment and quality assurance group in litigation arising from a mining accident.
    • Representing lenders in loan enforcement and asset recovery matters.
    • Representing major real estate developers in litigation arising from acquisition and construction of parcels for development in New York City.
    • Defending a major alcoholic beverage importer in a suit alleging breach of a long-term distribution agreement.
